End of Year Special Stages

Be on the lookout for content to come out on the web on the end of year specials by each broadcast network. I believe KBS is doing a Road to Faith special with FT Island and Juniel amongst other artists that will be broadcast on December 31st.

And, the MBC Gayo Daejun will feature FT Island, CN Blue and Juniel performing Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are".

It sucks that most of the world can't watch it live, but we're still looking forward to it!

Hong Ki's Festive Nail Art

Long-time buddies Lee Hong Ki of FT Island and Heechul of Super Junior got couple nail designs to celebrate the upcoming holiday. Hong Ki loves to decorate his nails. He loves to go to nail salons period. It stuck with him ever since FT Island released their song, "Hello Hello". If you ever watch that video, he uses his hands a lot during the chorus. He's often said in interviews that his hands become the focal point when he's on stage.

Going along the same lines(I know that Green Tea will be interested too), I thought it would be kinda cool to post a couple of videos on nail art design.

Happy holidays and happy decorating!

Never forget to say "I Love You"

In the US, we have gone through another day of completely senseless tragedy.

Today, in the little town of Newton, Connecticut, a 20-year old boy opened fire in an elementary school classroom killing 20 kindergarten children and 6 adults including himself and his mother (not on scene).

I have to ask myself why? How does this make any sense?

Little children anxious to go on Christmas break, waiting to see what their parents bought them, ready to rip open presents under the tree. Simply gone. Without any rhyme or reason.

The world that we live in has changed so dramatically. Ten, maybe twenty years ago, we worried about strangers kidnapping kids. Now we have to question if even the most innocent lives are safe in a place we thought they were the most safest in.

We get so caught up in our lives, the day to day grind. Or studying. Or even going gaga over the latest scandal over a star, tweeting their adoration. Do we even take a look around at who matters the most to us?

I bet those that rushed off without hugging their brother or sister, parents that promised to take their kids somewhere nice after school was done, or not even taking the time to say simple words of endearment, are looking back with regret.

What I'm trying to say is always remember to take a step back and remind yourself of your priorities. Cherish your memories with each other, whether it be a sibling, spouse, parents or children. And tell them, nay, show them, how much you love them. Someone else may take the opportunity away from you.

Where Did FT Island's Lee Jae Jin Go on Twitter?

That's the question I am posing to all of you.

He was on my very short list of people I follow and he's not showing up anymore.

Does anyone know if he closed his Twitter account and why?

I really like him, he's not my fave out of all of them. But he has a nice voice.

His Twitter handle was @saico011. Anyone?

SHINee covers Wild Eyes by Shinhwa

While looking at my favorite videos on YouTube, I came across this video of SHINee's cover of Shinhwa's Wild Eyes.  This is one of the songs I like from Shinhwa and SHINee is singing it.  cool.

This video was uploaded in 2009, so I'm guessing this was around the time they performed it.  SHINee debuted in 2008.  Still young and they look it.  Look at Taemin's bowl cut hair. =D

You can't but help compare and the original usually sounds the best.  For someone who loves both Shinhwa and SHINee,  I really like both but I prefer Shinhwa's version the best.  I'm just glad SHINee covered it.

SHINee nailed the choreography.  They were really great but how could you doubt them even at that age.  They were usually great at their dancing.  I must say this is a complicated choreography and they had to sing on top of that.

Now, the singing part.  It sounded a little weak especially in the chorus.  Onew and Key sounded the best and the rest were ok.  I think Taemin struggled vocally.  Minho did all the rapping and english is not one of his strong skills.  Shinhwa had two advantages, Eric and Andy,  they were fluent in english.  I'm surprised Key didn't rap since his english is better but then again he sang the most.  This would have been an all Key version of Wild Eyes. hahaha.

I'll give props to SHINee for performing Wild Eyes, maybe they should have done T.O.P. instead.  Or maybe they did and I haven't found it yet. =)  I think if SHINee performed Wild Eyes now, it would be a whole lot better.

Here's the SHINee cover of Wild Eyes, uploaded by Josefine Kaiser.

JYJ and SM battle finally ends

photo: mtviggy.com

I'm a little late but good news for all JYJ fans.  JYJ and SM Entertainment legal battle has finally ended on November 27, 2012 after almost 3/1/2 years of fighting.

Seems like both JYJ and SM has agreed to withdraw all their lawsuits against each other. JYJ, whose members are  Kim Jaejong, Park Yoochun, and Kim Junsu,  were the first to initiate the lawsuit, in 2009, citing that they wanted out of their contracts because of the unfair terms.

Since the legal battle started, JYJ had spent most of their time promoting outside of Korea, going between Japan and Korea.  In 2010, they even started having U.S. tours.  Yea!

Now that the legal battle is over, hopefully JYJ can move forward.  Hopefully, we can now see them perform on the music shows like Music Bank and Music Core.  Also, appear on more variety show.  I hope they don't stop the U.S. tours since they can perform on Korean broadcasted shows now, because many of us still have yet to have a chance to see them perform.

Hwaiting JYJ!!

Post 2012 MAMA

They performed, gave out the Awards and now it's done.  After all the fan voting, what was the result? Let's start out with the positive.

First off, I didn't watch the whole 5 hours show but I did catch some of the ones I wanted to see.  I really enjoyed the performances by SHINee and Super Juniors.  I'm glad SHINee won the Best Dance Group Award but I think overall Super Juniors are a bit better this year.  SHINee should have won last year for Lucifer.  I'm also happy that Kara and Super Junior won for Best Global Group.

I'm glad some of the groups I like won some of the awards (ie. Super Juniors) but I still have issues of who won the MAMAs.

My grip?

Based on the online voting, practically most of the groups/singers that won their category did not win the award.  What. Is. With. That. HUH???  The ones that were far ahead in the lead by the online fan voting didn't win the award.  What happened to Shinhwa in Best Artist of the Year? Taeyeon for Best OST?  FTIsland in Best Band?

How the heck did BigBang out win Shinhwa in Artist of the Year? They weren't even close.  Super Junior was in second place.  And if you're going to have a board voting as well, how can you not pick Shinhwa?  In Korea, they are the group that stayed together the longest, 14 years.  The groups that started around their time are no longer around.  They didn't drop or add any new members.  After a 4 year hiatus to fulfill their military duties, they had a wonderful comeback in 2012 with Venus.

Taeyeon for Best OST was ahead by a landslide.  I didn't vote for her but how could she not have won?    Ok, so if FTIsland didn't win for best band, how come CNBlue didn't win?  They were  a close second place.  Busker Busker?  I listened to their song and I still don't understand how they won Best Band.

If the MAMAs are not going to take the fan voting into consideration then why do it in the first place?  All they are going to do if frustrate fans like me who try to vote everyday to help the groups/singers they want to win.  It just looks like they had the judges vote who they want and that was it.

And I must say, from the looks of that evening performances, whoever performed, won that night.  Somehow, for an awards show that's growing, they didn't invite all the nominees to the show.  It looks like they only invited the winners and had them perform, with the few exceptions like Adam Lambert and Roy Kim.  Did anyone see Shinhwa, FTIsland, CNBlue, SNSD or TVXQ there?  I didn't.

Next year....I don't know about participating again in the online voting.  It's so frustrating.

FT Island's Seung Hyun Is In a Relationship

Sorry Primadonnas! Looks like Song Seung Hyun (aka Song Sari) is off the market! (At least for now)

Song Seung Hyun
He confessed on the show, "All the K-Pop", very flustered they say since he was put on the spot by his hyung Hong Ki, that he is currently in a relationship! That Lee Hong Ki, he really is a trouble maker! (LOL, no wonder I love his so much!)

But relax, all of the other members are single, for now. So if you had/have a bias for Seung Hyun, perhaps fans may want to focus on the other lonely members.

I had to laugh at the article that AllKpop put out not too long ago about this. The comments referenced their most recent single, "I Wish" in the article saying that finally one of the members is no longer "lonely lonely". LOL!

Take heart die hard FT Island fans, and lets wish Seung Hyun and his new love happiness.

TVXQ Humanoids New MV Teaser

Seems like, I GreenTea, have been behind in my idol updates.  TVXQ has come out with a new music video called Humanoids.  Full version of the video will be released on Nov 26th.

I love their dance but it sounds and looks like their last release Catch Me video.  That video was pretty cool but I think they need some variety.

There's basically only two songs that DBSK sings that I like, Mirotic and Balloons.  Two completely different songs.  Balloons is just too cute and so at odds with the Mirotic image I have of them.

When DBSK split, it seems like SM Entertaiment just gave Yunho and Changmin one sound and stuck them in that hole.  I wish they would end the legal battle and put TVXQ and JYJ back together again.

In any case, here's Humanoids by TVXQ.  Video by SMTown's YouTube.

2012 MAMA voting Update

Is everyone voting??

Well, I must have been blind.  My previous post says that voting ends November 22nd.  It's actually November 28th, midnight.

Are your favorites in the running?  So far I have most of my favorite groups winning.  Super Junior leading in Best Male Dance Group and Song of the Year.  Shinhwa leading in Best Male Group and Artist of the Year. TVXQ leading in Best Global Group.  FTIsland leading in Best Band (Chai should be happy).

Also, are you a pretty girl?  MAMA is having an event for only who think they are pretty (very subjective, I think).  You need to sit in front of the computer and sing B.O.B and Bruno Mars' song Nothing on You.  Winner's video will be broadcasted on the live show and will win a signed CD and TShirt of a Super K-Pop Star.  Comb your hair and put on a pretty blouse and belt it out.  You may win.  Event Ends on November 24th.  Here's the site for more details: Beautiful Girl Singing Contest

Don't forget to vote for the MAMAs: 2012 MAMA voting

Stars Getting a Start on the Holidays

It's not even Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) yet, but some stars are getting into the holiday spirit already.

Like... Actor Song Seung Hun and FT Island's leader, Choi Jong Hun.

On their Twitter accounts, they posted holiday themed pics.

Seung Hun shared a photo of himself next to a lit tree. While Jong Hun changed his profile pic to a picture of himself against a snowflake background and a few red ornaments.

They make me love the holidays even more. ~Chai

FT Island to Release New Japanese Album November 28th

Yay! First, their 4th full length Korean album, "Five Treasure Box" and now their 9th Japanese album, "Polar Star", which will come out on November 28th.

I am very happy when I see a group that I like being productive. Not only do you see more of them during promotions, but if you're like me and live for new music, you get to listen to something different!

A teaser for their music video, "Polar Star", has already been released. And there's been articles saying that this is another album the members themselves have composed the tracks. Artists actually writing and making the music, how awesome is that? No wonder I love these guys!

The song "Fallin' For You" is composed by bassist Lee Jae Jin, who wrote about a man who wants to be close to his love. Hmm, is this a hint to the girl that dropped him because she couldn't trust him?

Another song, "Beautiful World" is composed by leader and lead guitarist, Choi Jong Hun, who wrote about a man who looks on lovingly at his love. Ah, perhaps another hint towards the ex-girlfriend who suddenly went MIA (missing in action).

These two...I have to say that heartbreak agrees with them. It must have been hard for the both of them, but it looks like they found creative outlets for their emotions.

I can't wait to hear the full album. The sneak preview that they currently have online is not enough!

Lee Hong Ki Wants to Do Music His Way

FT Island Vocalist Lee Hong Ki

On the KBS show, "Do Dream", Lee Hong Ki expressed that "The music I want to do and the music that the general public likes are different."

I would just like to say, that not everyone agrees with that sentiment. Not everyone likes the mainstream stuff. I, for one, get bored of hearing the same types of songs over and over. That's why FT Island has become so popular, their sound is different! They're not dance pop techno dolls. And that is awesome! Some of the biggest hits in music have come from artists that went against the mainstream likes.

Now, whether or not that is possible is a different story. One of the drawbacks to being a star under contract is that you are limited by your contract. If FNC Entertainment says that he has to sing whatever they put in front of him, well, sorry, so sorry Lee Hong Ki.

I hope he will be able to come to a compromise with his agency if that's the case. And I hope he trusts fans, like myself, to be our own judge of good music.

SS501's Leader At Madame Tussauds

If you've read my previous post about Hyun Bin, you'll know that the reason why I fell in love with K-Dramas was because of him. The reason I fell in love with K-Pop is because of this guy here. Idol/Actor Kim Hyun Joong of SS501.

SS501's Kim Hyun Joong 2010

He started off as a the Leader of popular flower boy group SS501 and made his acting debut as Joo Ji Hoo in the K-Drama, "Boys Before Flowers", which skyrocketed him to fame.

Since then, he has acted in another drama, "Playful Kiss" and promoted with SS501 under DSP before they "disbanded" to do their own projects a couple of years ago. From there he promoted as a solo artist under Key East Entertainment where he has found success on his own. And his list of accomplishments doesn't stop there, but to go on will take another page.

My point is, he is popular. Very popular. And he is actually one of the most asked about figures in Korean culture that Madame Tussauds has decided to cast a wax figure of this handsome star and display it in their museum in Busan, South Korea.

To have a wax figure of yourself is an honor. It means that you have made it. I find it equivalent to a Grammy. It tells an artist/actor that the public loves you. Oh to be able to see his figure in person one day. Wax or personal, don't matter.

Kim Hyun Joong, you are the man. Hwaiting! Saranghaeyo!!

Actor Hyun Bin To Sign With New Agency

One of the reasons that I fell in love with K-Dramas was because of this guy, actor Hyun Bin.

Hyun Bin

I saw him acting in "My Name is Kim Sam Soon" and I just fell in love. (Coincidentally, Daniel Henney, who Green Tea is absolutely crazy about was in the same drama.)

He has been a hot topic since then, acting in dramas such as "Snow Queen" and "Secret Garden".

It was a little disappointing to hear he was enlisting to the military a couple of years ago. (Mandatory for fit Korean males.) But, he is coming back into public view on December 6th! And with that, he will also be looking at new agency "O&" to guide him through this next stage of his career. Articles say that he is looking over a couple of dramas and movies and the details of "O&'s" contract proposal, already. (What kind of name is this for an agency??)

Can't wait for Hyunnie to come back and act!

Super Junior Wins Triple Crown in Japan's Oricon

WooHoo! From SMTown's Facebook, Super Junior won a triple crown on the Oricon's weekly chart in Japan.

"‘SUPER JUNIOR WORLD TOUR SUPER SHOW4 LIVE in JAPAN,‘ released as DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan on October 31st, ranked at 1st on both daily and weekly DVD charts, DVD music chart and Blu-ray Disc chart of Oricon.

Especially, by standing atop in 3 categories including weekly DVD chart, DVD music chart and Blu-ray Disc chart of Oricon, Super Junior proved their high popularity and influence in Japan once again.

2012 MAMA voting

It's time to vote!  If you're in the U.S. it's not only for your political candidates but also in the MAMA's.  It's the MNet Asian Music Awards.  The show will air on November 30th.

In 1999, this was the first Korean music awards ceremony.  Now it's growing globally, where anyone can vote for your favorite Korean artist(s).  You just need to sign up on the site.

Among the 20 categories, you can vote for the best new artist, best male and female artist, global group, song of the year and artist of the year.

Personally, some are hard to choose when there are more than one artist in a category that I want to win.  Other categories, I don't even know who to vote for.  Right now Super Juniors are leading in alot of the categories, YEA!  I would also like Shinwha to win something as well.

Go to this site to vote: 2012 MAMA

You can vote once a day, until November 22nd Midnight.

If you don't know who to vote for in a category, vote for Shinwha or Super Junior or SHINee or CNBlue or FTIsland if they are a choice.  If you have someone you want me to vote for let me know and I'll vote for them (well, as long as they are not competing against my favorite group.)

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

Shinwha Broadcast

As my Shinwha obesession continues...I must make this plea and hopefully someone will listen.  Hopefully Shinwha Company.

For those of you who doesn't know who Shinwha is, they are a boy group that debuted in  March 1998.  They have six members, Eric Mun, Lee Minwoo, Kim Dongwan, Shin Hyesung, Park JunJin and Andy Lee.

They are the longest Korean idol group that stayed together and didn't have any member leave or added anyone either.  Four years ago, Shinwha took a break for the members to fullfil their Korean duties and one by one joined the army or do individual activities.  In 2012, finally, the last member ended their enlistment and the group had a comeback.

In addition to their comeback song "Venus", they have a variety show called Shinwha Broadcast.  I've watched the first few episodes and some in between.  And I have to say, this is the first show that several times laughed so hard I had to pause or rewind it because I couldn't stop laughing.  And this is for every episode I've watched so far.

Now I don't want to get any accounts in trouble but I think in the end it will benefit Shinwha.   I've been watching Shinwha Broadcast (with English Subs).  What I'm upset about is that I can't find all the full episodes online.  Never mind that I need it subbed in English.  I could watch it and still laugh without understanding three fourths of what they say.

I need to get all the non-Korean speaking Changjo to plea to Shinwha to have the show officially online somewhere so I can watch it.  I've read complaints of where are the next episodes.

Who's with me?!?!?!  Like this.  Forward this.  Let's get the broadcast out so we can expand their fandom.  Or if it is already online somewhere, can someone let me know?

All I'm doing is re-watching the same videos over and over.

Drama "Reply 1997"

Now I'm watching a popular drama, Reply 1997 or Answer Me 1997.  It's about a girl Sung Si won who is a huge fan of H.O.T. and she's obsessed with them when she was in high school. It shows her and her friends in 2012 at a reunion and flashes back to when they were coming of age in high school in 1997.

Even though I didn't live in Korea, the flash back bring back memories of the style of clothes and hair that happened not only in Korea but in the U.S. too.  Cassette tapes, walkmans, Tamagochis, baggie clothes and I'm only on episode 8.

What is really entertaining to me is her obsession with H.O.T.  For a while last year, I too, was obsessed with H.O.T. and looked up the music videos and replayed it over and over again.  I loved Candy.  I wanted the song and I couldn't find it on iTunes, Amazon.com or YesAsia.com.  I was so upset.

Even if you don't know who H.O.T. was, you'll enjoy it. Chai, who vaguely knew of them because of me, liked the drama and told me to watch it.  Watching the drama again with me was a whole new level.  Because I watched the music videos, I had pointed out things Chai didn't catch because she didn't know them.  I think it became more hilarious because I squealed and got all excited when the songs played and I recognized H.O.T. references.

Tony An makes a few appearances in the drama.  Also a couple of characters in the drama are from the H.O.T.'s rival group SechsKies.  They play a couple of high school boys who are friends of Si Won.  Hoya, a member of boy group Infinite, is also in the drama.

Find and watch the drama.  So far it's fun to watch.  ~gt

FT Island's Choi Min Hwan in Gwanghwamun Sonata

Choi Min Hwan in Gwanghwamun Sonata

FT Island's not often seen, but obviously heard drummer, Choi Min Hwan, will be flexing his musical acting chops.

Min Hwan has been cast in the musical "Gwanghwamun Sonata" in which he will be playing a director named "Jiyong". His character has a very bright personality, very much like Min Hwan's so this role should suit him very well. Maybe he will be called on to do a few of his famous "aegyo" onstage?

I wish him the best! Especially since he sounds nervous about being onstage in front of people. Even though he is a musician, he's almost always in the background, and of course it doesn't help that this is his debut.

The musical will run from November 10th through January 2013.

CNBlue Wraps Up Japan Tour

CNBlue, CNBlue, CNBlue! I can't get enough of CNBlue!

First, these guys jet to London, then they're off on tour in Japan. And in between, they're doing their own separate activities. Drummer Min Hyuk accomplished his drama "You Who Rolled in Unexpectedly", bassist Jung Shin wrapped up a drama of his own, and Jong Hyun received thumbs up for his role in "A Gentleman's Dignity". (Yong Hwa was busy working on musical activities)

On their recent Japan concert tour, "Come On", they drew more than 100,000 fans in all to their venues. And each time they rocked the house down. Fans are already asking when they're come back is.

These guys have about as much energy as jumping jalapeno jellybeans! No wait, they're like the Energizer bunny, they keep going and going and going.

I'm cheering these fellas on and I hope they continue to do good work!

Treat yourself to a pic of the group after one of their concerts on tour. Unfortunately, I can't post it due to technical difficulties. But you can go ahead and click the link below.

SMTown's I AM, the movie

A little late but I just saw I AM, the movie from SM Entertainment at the HIFF.  Go and see it, if....

If one of your favorite idol group is either Super Junior, SHINee, TVXQ, Girls Generation, f(x), Kanta or BOA and you have never gone to any of their concerts.  Actually, you should see it on the big screen if you haven't seen their concerts.  It shows some of their concert performances of their popular songs and it is like being at their concert. Plus, you get up close shots of their performances.  It helps if you sit a little back and you have a bunch of fans in the first six or seven rows screaming when the group performs on stage.  It's like being in the front row at a real concert.  It felt amazing.

If you're a fan of any of those groups, then you should see this movie. You get to see their pre-debut days and how they auditioned and practiced.  They were so young, normally around 14-15 yrs old.  They are interviewed and they explained how they felt auditioning, performing and practicing.  There were times I got all teary eyed because of how hard they practiced and how much they love their families and the sacrifices they made.

If you're into Kpop, then you should see this movie.  I would think in any of the Korean groups or idols in any of the companies feel the same way, auditioning and practicing in a similar fashion.  Watching them and listening to them is a little heartbreaking.  It really made me appreciate all the hard work they have done.

One thing I felt sad about was Kangta and Boa.  When they appeared on screen, there weren't any screaming fans in the theatre for them.  They were popular back in the day.  I discovered H.O.T. just last year, so I pretty much knew about Kanta.  I knew of BOA just because she's in the SM company and I recognized the name.  I hope the fans went home to look up Kanta.  I believe H.O.T. was the reason why Kpop groups continued on until today.

I would love to go and see the movie again.  The DVD and Blu-ray box set was released on Oct 3rd. I think it's a set I would love to own and if you're a fan you would too.

Hardworking FT Island

In a tweet late yesterday, FT Island's lead vocalist, Lee Hong Ki tweeted:

Huh?? Oh, yeah, that’s right. I’ve called everyone over and we’re writing a song together

Along with an image of two members (Lee Jae Jin working on the computer in the foreground and Song Seung Hyun in the background with his guitar) This sent fans speculating as to if this meant that the group is already working on a new song together. The are currently promoting their 4th Korean album, "Five Treasure Box", and their title track, "I Wish".

It seems that these hardworking guys are not taking a breather at all. Then again, in order to keep awareness/interest of fans, artists and their agencies are always trying to push themselves to put out new music. Always composing, always writing, always promoting. (Gee, that should be a mantra for all groups. Kekeke.)

On another note, fans were also wondering why Seung Hyun was shirtless. I don't think it's brain surgery folks. The guy is obviously not in public, he is trying to work comfortably. I mean, for pete's sake, Jae Jin there in the foreground is wearing pajamas!

All I know is that I can't wait for these guys to come up with something else. I love to listen to their music. Their vocals, their instrumental sounds are different from everything else in K-Pop culture.

Keep working hard fellas! FT Island, hwaiting!!

Shinwha's 14th Anniversary Special DVD

So my recent obsession has been Shinwha.  Ever since their comeback this year with their songVenus, I've been hooked.  They were gone for 3-4 years to do individual activities and to fulfill their military obligations.  Now they are back!

Recently, they have come out with their 14th Anniversay Special DVD "The Return."  It will be released on October 30th (the pre-sale is this Friday).  It will have 2 DVDs and a Photobook.  One of the DVD is a documentary of "The Return" and the second DVD has the making of the Venus MV and clips of all 6 members, Eric, Minwoo, Dongwan (my bias), Hyesung, Junjin and Andy.

I've known of them several years ago when I heard a Kpop mix that included a Shinwha song, but I was into Baby Vox, SES and FinKLE at that time.  Then a couple of years ago I saw a program, We Got Married, which one of the featured couples included Shinwha's maknae Andy Lee and his "wife" Solbi.  They were a cute couple and he was a great "husband." I watched his season because Kim Hyun Joong, leader of SS501, was in the same season and ended up liking the AnSol couple as well.

Then Junjin, another member of Shinwha, also participated in We Got Married. I wasn't really into that couple because his "wife" was weird.  She was cute but she just acted too creepy, almost like her character in Boys Before Flowers, but not that creepy.

So fast forward to 2012.  After watching the Shinwha's comback performances, I love Venus.  Then I found some Shinwha Broadcast videos.  I got to know all six personalities.

I watched the Shinwha Broadcast because SHINee guest on a couple of episodes.  I got hooked on watching whatever videos I could find because Shinwha is hilarious group of guys.  No...men.  They are men and pretty good looking funny men at that.

If you can find it, watch it.  I've never cracked up so much watching a Korean variety show.  I wish Shinwha would put the series on their YouTube account with English Subs.  ~gt

HIFF showing of Shanghai Calling

Daniel Henney has a new movie out called Shanghai Calling.  Daniel is most noted for being a K-Drama actor as well as acting in a short U.S. TV series in the called Three Rivers.

On a side note: Daniel will be reunited with fellow Three Rivers co-star Alex O'Loughlin.  Daniel will guest star on Hawaii 5-0 with Alex, who stars as Steve McGarrett.  The episode will air in November.

HIFF first viewing of Shanghai Calling was on Friday, Oct 12th.  The movie is a light romantic comedy that mostly takes place in Shanghai.  Daniels plays Sam, a NY lawyer being sent to Shanghai for an assignment.  As when he first started acting in K-Dramas he barely spoke any Korean.  Well, Daniel didn't speak any Chinese either.  The movie is mostly in English with some english subtitles.  He is suppose to play an American Chinese but I can't get over the fact that he is Korean, probably because I've always known him to be a Korean actor.

I really enjoyed the movie and I must say it was way better than his Korean romantic comedy, Seducing Mr. Perfect.  I would actually buy the DVD and watch it again.

Daniel Henney and Daniel Hsia, the director, made an appearance after the show.  They had a Q&A, where fans could ask questions to both Daniels and could win a t-shirt from the movie.

His fan club, Hermosa International, even had a brief meet and greet with him.  He was very accommodating, friendly, charming and very tall.

Go see Shanghai Calling if you can.  Click here to visit Shanghai Calling site.  Here's the trailer.

FT Island Wins Lawsuit

K-PopRock band FT Island filed a lawsuit against cosmetics company, Baviphat, earlier this year.

After reviewing both sides, it looks like FT Island was in the right and Baviphat in the wrong.

Claims by the group and their agency say that Baviphat used the members images in products outside of the scope of their contract. The contract prohibited promotions of any Baviphat products that the group had been endorsing outside of Korea. Baviphat didn't heed that part of the contract and marketed products all over Asia. Busted!

It's a big no no to break a statement like that in a contract. And what's worse, Baviphat claims that they are not doing well financially, so the settlement was reduced. Instead of the original $180,000 USD the group members were expected to get, they are getting $36,000.

If Baviphat breaks contracts like they did with FT Island, it's no wonder they're not doing well financially.

Although it's not the amount they were hoping for, I'm glad FT Island got something out of it. No artist/group should be taken advantage of.

1 Million Followers for Jaejoong!

Wanted to send a quick congratulations to JYJ's Jaejoong!

He is one of the distinguished few that has hit the 1 million followers mark on their Twitter account. Another known K-Pop idol to have reached this status is Super Junior's Siwon.

Jaejoong seems to be enjoying heightened celebrity status with his promotions with JYJ and especially after coming off of his drama, "Time Slip Dr. Jin" in which he played military officer Kim Kyung Tak. He didn't get the girl in the drama, but he certainly has many adoring female fans!

Follow him too!

SHINee's romance social game

According to SHINee's Official Website, they will or will be releasing a social game called "SHINee My Love" this month.  I couldn't understand the exact release date.

It is being release by mobage.  There's a free Basic Play and a pay-per-item usage.  It's playable on smartphones.

I really don't understand what the goal of the game is but the concept seems to be you're going through their struggle as they debut.  And you get to develop a romance with the member you like.  The translation is a bit odd.

I haven't tried to look for the game on my phone and there's no link to the app.

I don't know if I would download the game.  Although, I would be curious as to what the game looks like.  Would you download the app?  Let me know if you do.

Click here if you want to look at the article.  Maybe you can understand it more than I can.

PSY's Seoul Concert for 80,000 Fans

To show his appreciation to his fans, PSY held a free concert in Seoul City Hall for his fans on Oct 4th.  There were about 80,000 fans in attendance.

When PSY performed Gangnam Style, everyone went crazy.  It looked liked every single person there sang and danced along.  He even took off his shirt as he promised in a previous performance.

If you watch the video, it was amazing watching the audience.  Daebak Korea!

Shinee's Dazzling Girl Short Ver MV

Omo! How could I have missed this???

EMI Japan released the short version of the video.  October 10th is getting closer.  After listening to the short version, I'm getting excited about the full version.

First off, I love the song.  I, also, love the choreography.  I love the video.  I must say, Key looks the best.  Love his green shirt.  As I said before, Key pretty much can carry off any outfit and look good.  He may not be happy with his looks but he always seems to carry off any look.

It must be the style in Japan now, but it's just odd seeing Onew and Minho in a skirt, especially Minho.  He always seem so conservative.

I'm not rocking the fur and feathers on the jackets but everything else looks great.

Yes, it might be because I just want to watch SHINee but the intro with the girl is too long.

Here's the video from EMI Music Japan.  Enjoy!

TVQX on Live with Kelly and Michael

Wow, first it was Girls Generation on David Letterman and Live with Kelly.  Now TVXQ is on Live with Kelly and Michael.  Well, almost....

Seems like their new song 'Catch Me' was played as the opening song on Live with Kelly and Michael.

It was background music so you can barely hear it but it's there!  I hope this is a hint of what's to come.  Yunho and Changmin on 'Live'.

Or someone that works on 'Live' is a fan of TVQX.  I wouldn't be surprised since Kpop is very popular around the world.

Click here to watch 'Live with Kelly and Michael'.  Turn up the volume!

TVXQ Catch Me Dance Version

I was waiting for TVXQ to have a comeback on Music Bank or Music Core this weekend since their single Catch Me came out, but I haven't seen anything posted.

I did find a Dance Only version where they are in the SM practice room with their clouds background.

First, I got to say, what's with Changmin's outfit?  It's so weird to practice in that.  It's a bit distracting.  It nice watching him dance and hearing him sing.

Then there's Yunho.  Yeah.  He's a dancer.  You can tell by the way he moves, very smooth.  The choreography is very powerful and you could tell that they are trying to convey that.  Yunho looks more effortless than Changmin.

I like how the extra dancers lower Yunho effortlessly and smoothly in the transitions between Yunho and Changmin.  Pretty cool.  I don't think you would be able to notice that in the MV version.

Anticipating their live comeback but in the meantime enjoy the Dance Version of Catch Me from SM Entertainment.

FT Island's Jong Hoon Gets Outdoors

I wanted to share this because I absolutely fell in love with this photo of FT Island's Leader, Choi Jong Hoon.

He tweeted from his personal Twitter today that he was out "climbing". Not sure if this is the direct translation or an English equivalent because he definitely does not look like he's breaking a sweat. Lol!

Courtesy Choi Jong Hoon's Personal Twitter
He looks so stylish as he's adjusting his hat in the sunlight. But what is up with the jacket? Is the weather that cool in South Korea now that he needs to keep warmer? He's wearing long pants too!

FT Island's cool leader pretty much looks good in everything he puts on. So it's no surprise he looks good even while he is outdoors.

What a cutie!

Chai out...

Korea's Chuseok Holiday

It's one of the four major holidays of Korea. This year, September 30th is Chuseok in Korea. It's a holiday similar to what Americans consider Thanksgiving, but it is so much more.

It's a family tradition going back to their roots. It's honoring their ancestors, paying respects at loved ones grave sites. Spending quality time with family by chatting and playing games. It's a time where everyone stops their every day life and actually, well hopefully, takes a day off. And of course, don't forget about the food. Everyone gathers at the head of household's home and partakes of some delicious home made delicacies.

What a wonderful holiday!

For a more detailed account of Chuseok, go to the article on Allkpop (http://www.allkpop.com/2012/09/a-detailed-explanation-of-chuseok-2)or various sites online.

"Shanghai Calling" is Calling

Got great news recently! The one, the only, Daniel Henney, star of My Name is Kim Sam Soon, Spring Waltz and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, will be coming to our hometown for the Hawaii International Film Festival!

So excited!! Hoping to catch a glimpse or two of him!

Plus, HIFF will be screening his movie, "Shanghai Calling" two nights during the festival! Love it!

Can't wait for October to come already!

Anyone in the area planning on attending either the gala or the screenings?

TVXQ Catch Me is released

It's finally out!  Well, for me the wait for 'Catch Me' wasn't that long.  Not like SHINee.  I'm still waiting for their Dazzling Girl release.

Yunho and Changmin look good.  Their teaser image was odd and too yellow-y but their MV looks better.  It looks very futuristic.  I like their arm band things and when it's all connected and they danced.  That looks cool.

I think I need to get use to their songs, even when they were the 5 DBSK.  I basically only like MIROTIC. That song was kept on replay on my iPod for the longest time and I love the choreography for MIROTIC. I like the dance only MV because it was basically them singing and dancing, nothing flashy.   Don't Bring Me Down was okay.

'Catch Me' sounds very techno.  I'm not that really into techno music.  I think I need to see the live version to get really into the music. Because I don't understand Korean,  I really don't understand the concept of the video.

I want them to release a dance only version.  Here's their video from SM Entertainment.

CNBlue Stunned at Airport

European Boices (pronounced as "voices", but with a b) rejoice! CNBlue has arrived in London for their concert on September 22nd.

The almost all of the members of the South Korean K-PopRock band arrived in London on September 20th and were stunned to see more than 400 fans waiting for them at the airport. Lee Jung Shin, their bassist, was finishing filming on a drama he was doing and is expected to join them soon, if not there already.

Security had a difficult time escorting the men safely to their cars since they had not accounted for so many fans at the airport.

This just goes to prove how strong the K-Pop wave is. What a change it has been in the past five years where no one except for Asia knew about these unique boy bands. Now, they have taken the world by storm. In this case, CNBlue storm.

What I like about this band is that they actually play instruments, they are live, up close and real. Not really choreographed. To me, this makes them a whole lot easier to relate to.

Will be looking forward to reviews of the concert! In the meantime, I hope the fans treat them nicely and with care. It will be hard to resist them, but please restrain yourselves. Hee hee.

SHINee's Dazzling Girl Video Comments

EMI Japan has put out a SHINee members video about their upcoming song Dazzling Girl.

They look like they are in their Sherlock clothes.  It's in Japanese, so I don't understand a darn thing, except at the beginning when the introduced themselves.

I like how they are comfortable speaking in Japanese.  They look good.

I found a translation of what they are saying.  Briefly, Key explains what the words Dazzling Girls is in Japanese.

Jonghyun explains that it's a piano, techo song with a light and fresh feel.   That this is their first original song in Japanese.  Their other songs were first released in Korean then translated into Japanese.

Then each member was asked what is their favorite part of the song.  Onew said he liked the part that they sang Love, Love, Love.  Key likes the part where they sing Dazzling Girl.  Minho liked the Boom Boom Pow part of the rap.

They started describing their "part" in the video.  Minho - hair designer, Key - Stylist, Taemin - makeup artist, Onew - designer and Jonghyun -  cameraman.

Cute Taemin explained that in the middle of filming a toad came in the studio and distracted him, so he spent some time with the toad.

Then they discussed the other single Run With Me.

This is the video from EMI Japan.  There are English Sub ones on YouTube.

TVXQ comeback

TVXQ have been releasing teaser images for their comeback "Catch Me" on September 24th.

SM Entertainment stated "'Catch Me' will have a trendy Dutch electronic sound and incorporate a powerful orchestral melody.  Stimulating the ear with a dubstep melody line, it is a fresh dance track."

Yunho was the first to have his teaser image released.  Yikes! It looks like part of his head is shaved.  Almost reminiscent of Key's Lucifer hair.  Too bad his eyes are covered.

Changmin teaser is just as odd.  I don't know about his "bowl" haircut.  It looks like they were trying to do a double image on the photo but it doesn't work really well.  I think the yellow tint doesn't work well with both photos.

I like their group teaser photo the best.  They look wonderful here.   Yunho looks kind of like Kim Hyun Joong.  I can't wait to see their comeback.

So many comebacks and releases of groups I like.  This will be an exciting fall season.  Yipppeee!

FT Island's Album Sales Soar Past 30,000

Chukkahaeyo (Congratulations) to one of my favorite groups, FT Island, who are enjoying their comebacks on multiple stages! So far, the 5 member flower boy band has graced the stages of Music Bank, M Countdown and Inkigayo. And they are reaping in the adoration of fans that have been waiting for their full length album.

Online sources report that their album, "Five Treasure Box" has sold more than 30,000 copies in just their first week! They currently hold first place on the music charts for album sales.

SNSD Girls Generation Japanese Single

Before SHINee's Dazzling debuts, there's going to be SNSD's single, to be release Sept 26, 2012.  It's not new song but a remake of their popular Korean version, Oh!

The MV came out and they still have their popular cheerleading costume.

For me it takes time to get use to the Japanese version.  There are some of the same english words and they kept one part in Korean.  It took me a moment to realize they were singing in Korean when it should have been Japanese.

I think this is their fourth song they did in Japanese.  The three other songs were Gee, Genie and Mr. Taxi.

I prefer Mr. Taxi in Japanese since that was the first version I've heard.  I didn't realize it was a Japanese version until I saw the Korean version weeks later.  derp!

What do you think of this version?

FT Island's "I Wish" Concert Teaser

I was surfing the net for updates on FT Island and found this clip that their agency, FNC, released on the group's YouTube channel.

The clip is footage of the group performing a bit of their new song, "I Wish", at their concert either September 1st or 2nd. (Video credit to FNC and FT Island. Video from FT Island's YouTube channel)

I'm watching this clip, and I'm thinking, boy, you take out the girl in the video and it's a totally different look. Well, that and the fact they are all sweaty and not really acting that is. *fangirly squealing*

Hong Ki, of course, is utilizing his hands and (omg) dancing?! He does a kind of cha cha (or is it salsa?) in place. It's very cute, but umm, sorry Hong Ki. Like you better singing and acting than dancing. And thank goodness you fixed your horns, I mean hair. And you nixed the head band! Woot woot!

The rest of the group looks awesome, exhausted, yet radiantly happy to be performing in front of their fans. Excited to showcase their new music.

Min Hwan powerfully strikes the drums and hats (how many does that guy need?), Jae Jin plucks his bass (and I must say looks a heck of a lot older than in recent months. Must be the hair.) Seung Hyun smiles at the fans his wide teethy smile, while Jong Hoon rocks out on his guitar proudly showing off his muscles.

Rock on FT Island, rock on...

SHINee's Dazzling Girl MV Teaser

The teaser is out!!!  WoooHooo!  hmmm...it's only barely halfway into September.  October 10th is so far away.

It's only the chorus.  The same part they used in the CF I posted in my earlier blog.

Chai is better than me at hearing if groups are pitchy, auto-tuned and their mistakes, I prefer the dancing/choreography more than the music.  I just know what songs I like.  When I listen to the CF I liked the  music but only listened to it a couple of times.  But, I noticed that it sounds very auto-tuned (if I can use that as an adjective).

In this teaser, I kept on replaying it because I could see them dancing. They look good. I'm just partial to guys with short hair. hahaha.  I think I'm a bit too giddy to write about the video, I don't know what to write.

I wish they didn't put the teasers out so early because it's so hard to wait until the 10th.

I don't own the video. Credit: EMI Music Japan

FT Island's New M/V "I Wish"

Allow me to do a bit of fangirly screaming right now...*Screams, squeals, whoops!*

The day I have been waiting for is here! (Chai, that's me)

FT Island's new album is now public! The group members tweeted from their Twitter accounts earlier today one word, "Gongae" meaning "public" and fans knew exactly what this was. The members were announcing the availability of their new album, "Five Treasure Box" and the debut of their new music video "I Wish". For the video please see below. Video credit to FNC and FT Island's official YouTube account.

And what do you know? Seen a review of this song already, check it out at Fabulously Filorean.

Lee Hong Ki Tweets Spooky Selca

I've been joking with friends about Lee Hong Ki's hairstyle on their new album cover, "Five Treasure Box", now available to the public.

In the picture, you will see his wavy hair has a pair of unusual kinks that resemble, well, Devil's horns. Yes, Hong Ki, you are definitely devilish with your innocent smile and mischievous twinkle in your eye...yup.

But what an uncanny coincidence when I happened to see an adorable selca that the M! Countdown MC through Twitter and, lo and behold, there is an abnormality in the photo. If you take a look at the lower left hand corner of the image, you will see the reflection of what looks like a pale face in the mirror next to Hong Ki's head. Go ahead, take a look!

Photo credit to Lee Hong Ki's Twitter
Aigoo...one after the other Hong Ki? Blame your band mates for pointing this out to you. But lucky thing they did!

Too bad it's not Halloween yet.

SHINee smartphone app

EMI Music Japan had gotten their renewal for the SHINee app coinciding with the single Dazzling Girl coming out on October 10th.  Lucky Japan fans!!

What does this mean?  Well, for smartphone users, you can download the SHINee app.

You can upload <PC> Http://Shinee.Jp/app/ <smartphone> Http://Shinee.Jp/sp/app/

If it doesn't work go here.

It will give the information on the latest releases, member profiles, media information, watch videos, and venues confirmation (I'm thinking only for Japan venues).

I tried clicking for the one that says PC but it seems to just direct me to the phone app.  It will work for Andriod and iPhones.

Enjoy!  Let me know if you did it.  How is it?

H.O.T. - debuted 16 years ago

After my first post on H.O.T., I didn't realize that it's been 16 years since their debut, Sept 7, 1996.  A fan had sent Jang Woo Hyuk an anniversary cake celebrating their debut.

The boy band is considered the forerunners of the Korean idol groups.  They were created by the chairman of SM Entertainment.

Members "Sexy Guy" Kangta was the first member and the leader.  "Radiant" Moon Hee Jun was the second member to join and he also had his friend "Shy Guy" Lee Jae Won to audition and then became the third member.  "Wild Guy" Woo Hyuk became the fourth member of HOT after he won a dance contest.  "Mood Guy" Tony An auditioned in LA along with Andy Lee and won the fifth spot.  Andy Lee later became a member of Shinwha.

There's talk of a reunion since last year, since the final member completed his military duty . It would be really nice to see them together.  I don't know if it will come true since there were issues between the company and the members when they disbanded after 5 years.

In any case, in celebration of their debut, here's Full of Happiness, just because Super Junior did a remake of this song.  We are the Future was considered one of their best songs.  My favorite song is Candy.

I don't own this video. Credit: mutjinnamja88 from SM Entertainment.  Sorry for the quality. =/

FT Island Reveals New Album Cover

Popular South Korean K-Pop/Rock FT Island is making it's comeback onto the music scene with their 4th Korean album titled, "Five Treasure Box".

This name is significant as it directly alludes to the name of the group. The "FT" in FT Island stands for "Five Treasure". The reference to the music box, one can only assume, means that this is a compilation of melodies of the group.

In statements released earlier this week, the group, and it's management company FNC Entertainment, have mentioned that group members Lee Hong Ki, Lee Jae Jin, Choi Jong Hoon, Choi Min Hwan and Song Seung Hyun have all taken to writing some of the songs on the album and the composition of the tracks themselves. The group expressed that the tracks are of a music style that they are actively interested in pursuing. This is particularly interesting to me since Leader Choi Jong Hoon seems to have taken a liking in expressing himself through musical composition. The last song he had composed, "Stay", which portrayed a sweet accoustic sound and vocal harmonies on the group's Japanese album earlier this year was a hit with the Japanese fans.

The five have just come off of a 2 day concert on their home turf of Korea where they debuted some of the tracks to their Primadonna's. Chatter after the concert have fans saying that the group has become more mature and that it is showing in the way they perform onstage and in their music.

I'm hoping for only good, nay, great things from the group as they are one of my favorites.

Primadonna's and fans all over can expect to see their album come out online on September 10th. And for those of you in Asia, especially Korea, you will be able to see a video off of the album titled, "I Wish" through Naver. Lucky for all of you!

Btw, anyone else think that Lee Hong Ki's hair looks like he has horns coming out of his head? Deliberate or intentional?

Hawaii Okinawan Festival 2012

Every year around the end of summer, Hawaii holds its annual Hawaii Okinawan Festival at Kapiolani Park.

For those that are not familiar with Hawaii, in particular the island of Oahu, it is held in the park right at the edge of Waikiki, near historic Diamond Head.

You are greeted left and right with banners with the words Mensore! (Welcome!).Thousands of people, Japanese, Okinawan, and every other culture, flock to Kapiolani Park. On the Sunday that I went, I encountered Germans and what seemed like Iranian women from the looks of their clothing.

There are booths filled with authentic Japanese and Okinawan food(obaasan or grandmother's recipes passed down to younger generations) such as andagi or okinawan doughnuts, yakisoba or fried noodles and champuru or stir fried bittermelon with meat and tofu. Most people come for the andagi and the long lines are testament to it. Having an andagi that was made at any of the bon dances or the Okinawan Festival is like gold. It can be replicated, but the crunchy, slightly sweet, light texture of these fried golden pieces of heaven are unmatched. All other andagi taste and feel like doughy lead after you eat one from here.

Other than food...you can tell what I like...There are tents filled with cultural wares, health products and plants. Along with handcrafted items.

Japanese and Okinawan music wafted through the air as performers played their koto (lap stringed instrument) and shakuhachi (Japanese flute) and sing onstage at the band stand. We were treated to a lively taiko performance, which my family loved. There are even game booths for the kids! Our family scrambled to put a decent mini golf game together before heading to spin the wheel for a prize at another booth.

It is a very big deal in Hawaii, especially since this festival signifies that the bon dance season is almost at an end.

Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Hawaii at the end of summer!
